Welcome to the 7th World Film Festival of Bangkok -- film lovers’ heaven. The festival opens with Mundane History by Anocha Suwichakornpong and closes with Rocksteady: The Roots of Reggae, a musical journey back to the golden age of Jamaican reggae.
Reflecting the festival’ s continuing support of independent film, both in Thailand and internationally, Mundane History received support from the 2006 Produire au Sud Bangkok, the biennial workshop for new producers and directors in Southeast Asia and Sri Lanka held by the Produire au Sud Foundation of the Festival of 3 Continents, the French Embassy in Thailand and the World Film Festival of Bangkok since 2004.
Mundane History is Anocha’ s debut feature, and it’ s a stunner, having premiered to a rapturous reception at this year’s Pusan International Film Festival and announcing Anocha as a shooting star of Thai cinema.
Previously, Anocha has been well regarded for her short films. Her Columbia University maste’s thesis short, Graceland, premiered in the Cinefondation program at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival, and is so far the only Thai short film to make the official selection in Cannes.
The story of Mundane History is about a young man who has a difficult relationship with his father. An accident leaves him paralyzed and a male nurse is hired to care for him on his family’s estate. Anocha says the characters, including the family’s once-grand manor, are allegories for contemporary Thai society.
Come and see what she’s talking about by watching her bold drama and taking part in our opening celebration at Paragon Cineplex on November 6 at 6pm. Invitation only.
The closing film will be a fun party. In the festive, free and intimate outdoor atmosphere of Discovery Plaza at Siam Discovery Center, Rocksteady: The Roots of Reggae will immerse you in the laid-back rhythms of Jamaican music. You will be surprised by the many hit tunes and veteran artists gathered to record an album of their greatest hits and perform at an all-star reunion concert in Kingston. And through the magic of film, you can take part in it.
The closing celebration will be held on November 15, 2009 at 8.30pm in Discovery Plaza at Siam Discovery Centre with a “Celebrity Look Alike” competition for people who believe they closely resemble famous stars.

ยืนยันการเป็นเทศกาลภาพยนตร์ที่ให้ความสำคัญและสนับสนุนภาพยนตร์ไทยและภาพยนตร์อิสระอย่างต่อเนื่อง กับการเปิดเทศภาลครั้งที่ 7 นี้ด้วย เจ้านกกระจอก ภาพยนตร์ขนาดยาวเรื่องแรกของ อโนชา สุวิชากรพงศ์ ผู้กำกับหญิงหนึ่งเดียวชาวไทย ที่เคยมีผลงานภาพยนตร์ได้รับคัดเลือกเข้าฉายอย่างเป็นทางการในเทศกาลภาพยนตร์เมืองคานส์ 2006 ในสายนักศึกษา จากภาพยนตร์สั้นเรื่อง Graceland เธอเป็นผู้กำกับภาพยนตร์ดาวรุ่งที่มีผลงานโดดเด่นอย่างต่อเนื่องและได้รับการคาดหวังว่าจะสร้างชื่อเสียงให้กับวงการภาพยนตร์ไทยในอนาคต
เจ้านกกระจอก บอกเล่าเรื่องราวของ เด็กหนุ่มผู้เติบโตขึ้นด้วยความรู้สึกเกลียดชังต่อผู้เป็นพ่อ เมื่อวันหนึ่งอุบัติเหตุที่ไม่คาดฝันทำให้เขาต้องเป็นอัมพาต ส่งผลให้ความเหินห่างยิ่งก่อตัวเป็นกำแพงขวางกั้นคนทั้งคู่มากยิ่งขึ้น ในระหว่างนั้นบุรุษพยาบาลได้เข้ามาทำหน้าที่ดูแลเด็กหนุ่ม ผู้ซึ่งเข้ามาแทรกกลางระหว่างม่านหมอกแห่งความเกลียดชังนี้ ที่ดูเหมือนว่าความสัมพันธ์ที่ดำเนินไปของทั้งสองจะช่วยเยี่ยวยาทั้งบาดแผลในจิตใจและบาดแลทางกายของเด็กหนุ่มให้ทุเลาลงได้
พิธีเปิดเทศกาลภาพยนตร์โลกกรุงเทพฯ จะจัดขึ้นที่บริเวณลานอินฟินิตี้ฮอลล์ ชั้น 5 โรงภาพยนตร์ พารากอน ซินีเพล็กซ์ในวันที่ 6 พฤศจิกายน 2552 เวลา 18.00 น.
ส่งท้ายด้วยภาพยนตร์ปิดกลางแจ้ง ในวันอาทิตย์ที่ 15 พฤศจิกายน 2552 เวลาประมาณ 20:30 ณ ลานดิสคัฟเวอรี่ พลาซ่า ห้างสรรพสินค้าสยามดิสคัพเวอรี่ ด้วยสารคดีดนตรีสุดสนุก ที่จะทำให้ผู้ชมโยกย้ายร่างกายไปกับจังหวะเร่าร้อนของดนตรีเร้กเก้จากถิ่นกำเนิด Rocksteady: The Roots of Reggae จากประเทศสวิตเซอร์แลนด์ ที่พาเราไปตามรอยยุคทองของดนตรีเร็กเก้จากถิ่นกำเนิดประเทศจาไมก้า ผ่านปากคำและท่วงทำนองอันมีชีวิตชีวาจากนักร้องและนักดนตรีระดับตำนานมากมาย ที่กลับมารวมตัวกันอีกครั้ง หลังจาก 40 ปี เพื่อหวนลำรึกถึงวันคืนแห่งความเรืองรองของดนตรีเร็กเก้ในวันเก่าก่อน และบันทึกอัลบั้มแห่งความทรงจำที่ชื่อว่า \\\"Rocksteady hits\\\"
